Private, home-style dog boarding & board-and-train in Rehoboth, Massachusetts
No rows of kennel cages. No crowds. Just a quiet home, big fenced yards, and a caregiver with the medical and behavioral experience to look after your dog the way you would — especially seniors, anxious dogs, and dogs with special needs.
Every service at Misfit Paws is shaped around your dog's routine, personality, and needs — and things like routine medication, extra potty breaks, bedtime treats, and additional attention are simply part of good care, never add-on fees.

At Misfit Paws Pet Care, our boarding experience is intentionally different from a traditional kennel.
We keep our boarding numbers small, typically caring for dogs from only one or two families at a time. This allows us to provide a quieter, calmer environment with more individualized attention and far less of the noise, commotion, and overstimulation that can come with large boarding facilities.
We also understand that not every dog enjoys the company of other dogs. Some dogs are more comfortable having their own space — because of personality, age, anxiety, medical needs, or simply personal preference. We are happy to accommodate dogs who need to be kept separately, and we never believe a dog should be forced into a social situation that causes unnecessary stress.
Whenever appropriate, dogs are kept outside of traditional kennel cages and given access to comfortable, home-style spaces with their own room, couches, dog beds, and plenty of opportunities to relax. Dogs who are crate trained or genuinely enjoy having their own crate are welcome to use one as part of their normal routine.
Small numbers. Individualized care. A calmer way to board.
Our goal is to make boarding feel as little like "boarding" as possible — so each dog can settle in and feel safe and comfortable while their family is away. At Misfit Paws, we believe dogs deserve more than a place to stay. They deserve an environment that respects who they are.
We believe there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all training program. Every dog comes to us with a different personality, history, learning style, and set of needs — so every Board & Train program is tailored specifically to the individual dog.
We do not follow one rigid curriculum or force every dog through the same set of exercises. Instead, we focus on the areas your dog needs most.
A variety of Board & Train packages are available, with length of stay and pricing based on each dog's individual needs, training goals, and the complexity of the behaviors being addressed.
Because successful training also involves the family, we work with owners to help them understand what their dog has learned and how to continue reinforcing those skills at home. Our goal is not simply to teach commands, but to create practical, lasting improvements that carry over into everyday life.
Every dog is different. Their training program should be too.
Heather is the owner and operator of Misfit Paws Pet Care, where she has provided private dog boarding, pet sitting, training, and board-and-train services for many years.
Her professional background with animals began with formal education in Animal Science, followed by additional study in Canine Behavior and Training at Mount Ida College. She has also worked as a veterinary technician and animal control officer, giving her extensive hands-on experience with dogs of many breeds, temperaments, ages, and backgrounds.
As a longtime registered nurse and now nurse practitioner, Heather is especially comfortable caring for senior dogs and dogs with complex medical needs. She understands the importance of medication schedules, close observation, mobility limitations, special diets, behavioral changes — and recognizing when something just does not seem right.
Heather has also spent years volunteering, fostering, and working with animals who require a little extra patience, understanding, or individualized care. She is the owner and co-founder of Misfit Farm & Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization focused on animal rescue, rehabilitation, and the connection between animals and emotional wellness — experience that extends well beyond dogs to horses, goats, poultry, and many other farm animals.
With decades of hands-on animal experience, education in animal science and behavior, a medical background, and a lifelong commitment to animals, Heather brings a level of knowledge, confidence, and individualized care that sets Misfit Paws Pet Care apart from traditional boarding.
